Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II

A-10 Thunderbolt II

Avenger gatling cannon
This is the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II. It is perhaps my favorite modern plane. The A-10 is a close air support and a ground attack aircraft. It's armament includes missiles, rockets, bombs and a 30mm, Avenger gatling cannon with 6 barrels and 1,170 rounds. The cannon fires depleted uranium, armor piercing shells at 3,900 rounds per minute. This is going to be my last post, bye.

McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle

This is the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle. It is a modern, American, air superiority fighter. The F-15 is only designed for air to air combat and it does just that. The F-15 is armed with a Vulcan cannon, muck like the F-4 and has many placements for missiles of many types, bombs and more. The F-15 was considered the best fighter of the United States until the F-22 Raptor. Nevertheless, the F-15 is still in service to this day in the United States and countries like Israel and other allies of the United States. I'll post another plane soon.

McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II

F-4 Phantom

Gun Pod
This is the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II. It is a American fighter jet used by the South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. The F-4 was originally only armed with missiles, both radar-guided and heat-seeking. The problem was that the missiles of the time were still in the development and they were horribly inaccurate and un-reliable. Because of this, it was considerably difficult to shoot down enemy planes. So the military decided to  place a gun on the F-4 to increase the kill to death ratio of the F-4. A gun pod containing a Vulcan cannon with six individual barrels was placed where the centerline fuel tank would go to solve this problem. I'll post another plane soon.

Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17

This is the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17. This Russian built fighter jet was the primary fighter of the North Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. (Some call Vietnam during this time "the annoying swamp") The MiG-17 was smaller than the F-4 Phantom, but more maneuverable. The MiG 17 was the first MiG to have an afterburner (which is like a second engine that pumps jet fuel into the exhaust of the engine). The MiG also had ventral fins, which are  vertical fins that are placed on the wings of a plane to increase the stability of the plane. I'll post another plane soon.

Grumman Hellcat

This is the Grumman F6F Hellcat. It is a American, WWII, Naval fighter. The Hellcat was the only Naval Plane that could successfully tackle the Japanese Zero. In fact, the Hellcat was better than the Zero in every way. It could out-climb, out-dive, out-turn and out-gun the Zero. The Hellcat was an amazing plane but the more amazing thing about the Hellcat was that the Hellcat was barely ever improved because it never needed to be improved! I'll post another plane soon.

Supermarine Spitfire

I'm going to stop saying that my next post will be tomorrow cause I am so bored. This is the Supermarine Spitfire. It is a British, WWII fighter. The Spitfire was by far the best British fighter of WWII. It was probably the second best fighter of the war, right behind the P-51. The Spitfire was improved throughout the the war, each time becoming more efficient and lethal. I will post another plane soon.

Focke Wulf Fw 190

Fw 190

Bf 109
I was bored so I decided to make another post. This is the Focke Wulf Fw 190. It is a German WWII fighter. The Focke Wulf is better than Messerschmitt Bf 109. The 109 was slower, less manueverable, less durable and not as heavily armed. The 190 was so well made, that not untill the P-51 Mustang did the Allies have a fighter that could destroy a 190. I'll post another plane tomorrow

Sopwith Camel

This is the Sopwith Camel. It is the best WWI British fighter. It is the plane that Snoopy is always flying :) The Sopwith Camel was very difficult to fly, but once you got the hang of it, it was a good plane. Around 395 pilots died learning to fly the Camel, and 410 died in combat while flying the Sopwith Camel :( I'll post another plane tomorrow.

Fokker Triplane

This is the Fokker Triplane. Its a WWI German plane. The triplane’s advantage was the third set of wings, which was different than most planes of the time that only had two sets of wings. This made the triplane more maneuverable than most fighters of the time, but slower because the third set of wings add drag. I will post information on another plane tomorrow.
