McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II

F-4 Phantom

Gun Pod
This is the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II. It is a American fighter jet used by the South Vietnamese during the Vietnam War. The F-4 was originally only armed with missiles, both radar-guided and heat-seeking. The problem was that the missiles of the time were still in the development and they were horribly inaccurate and un-reliable. Because of this, it was considerably difficult to shoot down enemy planes. So the military decided to  place a gun on the F-4 to increase the kill to death ratio of the F-4. A gun pod containing a Vulcan cannon with six individual barrels was placed where the centerline fuel tank would go to solve this problem. I'll post another plane soon.
